"No Idea" 01/09/2012
This painting is a continuation in the "No Idea" series that is ongoing and will be added to when ever an idea or lack there of pops up. This series started after visiting another artist friend who's work I have admired for some time now. I was at his studio visiting and on the drive home I felt really inspired and knew I needed to get my a$s in gear and paint more often, well I had "No Idea" what I wanted to paint that day when the light bulb idea came to mind as I was thinking about how my friend has painted some simple objects and managed to make them look really cool and interesting. As we are all probably quite familiar with the light bulb symbolizing an idea it seemed like a good subject matter with references readily available. So I went home and painted a light bulb and then over the next few days or weeks I painted a few more. This painting is the latest in the series and was inspired by a scene in a very old movie by Ingmar Bergman. Thank for reading and watch for more in the series coming soon. This Multi media piece came together over several months as all the pieces took time to realize they would form the final creation. It started with the eyeball painting which was originally part of a larger piece that did not quite work out. There where parts of the eye that I really liked so I kept it around hoping to find a use for it at some point. Next I found the circular piece at a estate sale and added it to my collection of other found objects which I am always on the look out for. I attempted to put it together with the eyeball but it was not working to my satisfaction until I found the large piece of copper, which incidentally I passed over the first time I saw it but I knew I would find a use for it so I had to go back and get it. Once home I realized all three pieces would work well together, so I then did the work to get it all assembled and present it here for you!! Thanks for giving it a look. Influence 11/21/2011
I was recently viewing some newer work by an old friend who is actually pretty responsible for getting me started on painting, he gave me my first one on one lesson with acrylic paint ( thanks Pete ). So anyhow I was certainly a little influenced by him and some of his techniques. One of which was some splattering he showed me that he did with his brushes. Well this lead me to try this and then to also find my own technique to use as well. So now I was flattered to see that he has now also found a liking to my style of splatter and has used it in many of his new works. I guess it felt good to be able to offer something in return for his getting me going on painting. As an artist I really enjoy working with and sharing ideas with other artist. I find it very rewarding as it helps to continually see things through different eyes and to keep pushing myself to learn and grow with my art and to hopefully inspire other artist to push themselves to always move forward as well. I am so grateful and thankful to every person that has helped me in my art career !! I truly hope I give back as much as I take in !! New Blog, First Post! 10/19/2011
